OCTOBER
is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic Violence
Awareness Month evolved from the first Day of Unity observed in
October, 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
The intent was to connect battered women’s advocates across
the nation who were working to end violence against women and their
children. In October 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness
Month was observed.
Bay Area Turning
Point continues in this tradition by hosting several events to recognize
Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Below are our events for 2008.
Join us and be a part of the solution to violence against women,
men and children.
The CROP Walk
(Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty)
Sunday October
12, 2008 2:00pm
Clear Lake Park
5000 Nasa Pkwy
The CROP
Walk is an
annual charitable walk and fundraiser for the local community
sponsored by Church World Service. The Bay Area Crop Walk is
being sponsored by St. Claire’s, St. Bernadette’s, Webster
Presbyterian, Clear Lake Presbyterian, Taylor Lake Christian
Church and several other local religious institutions.
The CROP Walk receives donations from participant walkers and
walk teams. Walkers may fundraise prior to the walk or donate a
suggested registration fee the day-of-event. CROP Walk
donations are taken from the event and split among participating
charities. Last year, BATP received $3000 in donations.
Participants are also asked to bring non-perishable food items
to be collected for local hunger relief efforts.
So get your work-out gear on
and head out to Clear Lake Park to support Bay Area Turning
Point as we stand against domestic violence.
